Bears QB Jay Cutler explains why he ignored coach Mike Tice

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com

In general, it's difficult to defend Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, what with his winning personality, that perpetual smile and the wonderful rapport he has with both coaches and teammates. But we think he's right about his "If I don't acknowledge you, you don't exist" moment with offensive coordinator Mike Tice early in Monday night's win over the Cowboys.

In case you missed it:

So, yes, Cutler didn't hang around to hear what Tice had to say. Big deal. Is that worse than Tom Brady in a shouting match with his quarterbacks coach? Plus, Cutler has a perfectly good reason for ignoring Tice: He was parched.

“I know you guys have to sell papers,” Cutler said according to the Chicago Tribune (by way of PFT). “It's hard out there. But you can't blow up every headline. Things happen during football games. Just because I walk off and go get water doesn't mean much.”

And if Cutler continues to complete 75 percent of his passes and throw touchdowns while avoiding interceptions it will continue to not mean much. But that's the deal: Winning fixes a lot but the moment you start losing, everything -- no matter how seemingly ridiculous -- is up for discussion.
