Eric Decker trips over the much-cliched turf monster

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

When the Broncos still had a chance to beat the Chargers on Monday night, Peyton Manning finally threw a long pass to a wide-open Eric Decker (basically, because San Diego cornerback Quentin Jammer simply decided not to cover him once Decker came five yards off the line of scrimmage).

It was a sure touchdown, a thing of beauty, a … well, a disaster of a play and a drive, as it turned out.

Here's what happened:

Afterward we had references to Decker slipping on the only ice patch on the field and how a sniper must have gotten him and how he tripped over his own feet (though, curiously, I didn't see a mention of the dreaded “turf monster”).

But mostly, it just looked silly. Even more so when Manning threw a pick-six to Jammer to end that drive, helping lead the Chargers to a 24-0 halftime lead.
