NFL adopts 3-day window for teams to negotiate with free agents from other teams

The NFL has adopted a three-day window for clubs to negotiate with free agents from other clubs prior to start of free agency. The NFL announced the move at its League Meeting in Chicago. Teams cannot sign players during this window but they can negotiate with the agent, and no visits with players from other clubs can take place during this window.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, who is in Chicago, the competition committee suggested the change as it believes it levels the playing field. Some clubs privately had said they objected to it, and, as a practical matter, it does not address the common interactions between teams and agents regarding prospective free agents that take place at the Senior Bowl and combine.
