Redskins TE Fred Davis tears Achilles, likely done for season

It's been a sensational season for the Redskins thanks to the emergence of Robert Griffin III, but injuries are doing their best to hold the team back. The latest nightmare development occurred on Sunday, when tight end Fred Davis suffered an Achilles injury that could end his season.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports that initial tests on Davis' Achilles show that he tore the tendon, which will likely end his season.

La Canfora reports that further tests will be done, but it's very likely that Davis is headed to injured reserve.

Davis was given the franchise tag in the offseason. The Redskins didn't attempt to sign him to a long-term deal because of off-field issues. That makes his injury particularly devastating for Davis, who was on pace for a career-high 832 receiving yards through six games.

He suffered the injury while running a route in the end zone and spent time on the sideline being tended to by trainers. He was then carted back to the locker room, where he underwent a series of tests.
