Blaine Gabbert plans to play next week

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

Early in the fourth quarter of the Jaguars 27-10 loss to the Colts on Thursday, Blaine Gabbert was tackled by Indianapolis safety Antoine Bethea, reinjuring his nonthrowing shoulder. The injury kept Jacksonville's quarterback out of the game for the rest of the night.

While Gabbert ran onto the field soon after the injury, coaches yanked him off and kept backup Chad Henne in the game instead.

Afterward, Jacksonville coach Mike Mularkey said the decision to keep Gabbert out was for safety reasons.

“I just thought where we were with the score, with a guy who had just gotten injured, I didn't think it was worth the risk,” Mularkey said, via the team's official website. “I didn't think it would have been very smart on our part to put him back out there.”

This isn't the first time this season Gabbert has dealt with a left shoulder injury. He was injured in Week 7 againt the Raiders and missed a significant portion of that game. Gabbert, though, didn't miss a start.

He doesn't plan to miss next week either.

“I'm going to do my best and be ready to roll,” he said.
