For the gambler in you, Week 13
Note: Home team is listed first in Against the Spread.
Game One: Bears -3.5 vs. Seahawks
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
| 2012 Against The Spread | |
| Overall: 6-5 | Overall: 7-4 |
| Home: 3-3 | Home: 5-0 |
| Away: 3-2 | Away: 2-4 |
| Last 5 vs. SEA: 2-3 | Last 5 vs. CHI: 3-2 |
| 2012 Team Rankings | |
| Pass offense: 32nd | Pass defense: 3rd |
| Rush offense: 10th | Rush defense: 11th |
| Pass defense: 6th | Pass offense: 31st |
| Rush defense: 7th | Rush offense: 8th |
Verdict: When you think about the two worst passing offenses in the league, Chicago and Seattle don't spring to mind. Mostly because Jay Cutler is having a solid season and Russell Wilson has had an imperssive rookie year. But this line is too low. The Bears have injury concerns, but they're coming off a big win against the Vikings. Seattle has played well in Chicago the past two seasons, but Cutler will find a way to get it done Sunday by more than a field goal.
Game Two: Raiders -1.5 vs. Browns
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
| 2012 Against The Spread | |
| Overall: 3-8 | Overall: 6-4-1 |
| Home: 1-4 | Home: 4-2 |
| Away: 2-4 | Away: 2-2-1 |
| Last 5 vs. CLE: 0-5 | Last 5 vs. OAK: 5-0 |
| 2012 Team Rankings | |
| Pass offense: 8th | Pass defense: 20th |
| Rush offense: 29th | Rush defense: 18th |
| Pass defense: 23rd | Pass offense: 23rd |
| Rush defense: 27th | Rush offense: 26th |
Verdict: On the CBSSports.com expert picks this week, I'm the only one taking the Raiders, and I'm not sure why. The Browns are a disaster, and although the Raiders are on a four-game losing streak -- yes, I realize that's also pretty terrible -- you can't expect Cleveland to travel across the entire country and beat the Raiders. The Browns won't.
Game Three (largest spread of week): Cowboys -10.5 vs. Eagles
Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC
| 2012 Against The Spread | |
| Overall: 4-7 | Overall: 1-9-1 |
| Home: 0-5 | Home: 0-5-1 |
| Away: 4-2 | Away: 1-4 |
| Last 5 vs. PHI: 2-3 | Last 5 vs. DAL: 3-2 |
| 2012 Team Rankings | |
| Pass offense: 2nd | Pass defense: 13th |
| Rush offense: 32nd | Rush defense: 17th |
| Pass defense: 8th | Pass offense: 17th |
| Rush defense: 12th | Rush offense: 9th |
Verdict: I don't know why I think the Eagles will cover. Well, except for the Cowboys' 0-5 record against the spread at home this season. But maybe after a few weeks, Philadelphia rookie quarterback Nick Foles will feel more comfortable in the pocket, and maybe, the Eagles defense this week won't let a receiver run down the middle of the field completely wide open. Philladelphia is underwhelming, but really, can we expect Dallas to cover this spread? I say no.
PROP BETS
Total fumbles lost by Steelers running backs Week 13?
Over/Under 1
Last week, every running back who played for Pittsburgh fumbled the ball -- and four Steelers took handoffs -- and overall, the team lost eight turnovers. Even if they cut their fumbles in half, the Steelers would still go over. That's what I'd bet.
Will the Cardinals lose their last 12 games of the regular season?
Yes 6-1
No 1-12
The odds are way against it, but I'd take this bet. The Cardinals should be underdogs in the rest of their games this season (vs. the Jets, Seahawks, Lions, Bears and 49ers), and new starting QB Ryan Lindley doesn't give me much confidence. I'd go yes.
Last week: 0-3 against the spread (missed on Packers +3.5 vs. Giants, Falcons -1.5 vs. Buccaneers, and Broncos -10.5 vs. Chiefs) and 1-1 on prop bets. Hit on Ronnie Hillman going under 55.5 rushing yards. Missed on Charlie Batch going over 200.5 passing yards.
Overall: 17-19 against the spread; 27-9-1 on prop bets; two props still undecided (Ken Whisenhunt first coach to get fired; Robert Griffin III won't lead the league in completion percentage at the end of the regular season).
