NFL Coaching Rumor Roundup: Friday, Jan. 11

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Teams will be deciding the fates of coaches and front-office types all fortnight (!) long. You can follow the official hirings and firings over at our Coaching Tracker, but we'll keep you up to date on all the rumors and speculation here (all times ET). Here are the rumors from last week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday), and this week (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

Friday, Jan. 11

6:34 p.m.
The Eagles announced they will interview Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden on Monday. Previously Gruden's said he doesn't intend to bolt Cincinnati, but it's possible the Eagles gig could interest him enough to bolt.
4:30 p.m.
Kansas City announced the hire of Doug Pederson as offensive coordinator and Bob Sutton as defensive coordinator on Friday.
3:22 p.m.
Add former Browns coach Pat Shurmur to the list of offensive coordinator candidates for the Panthers: Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports Shurmur is one of the candidates the Panthers will look at. It would mean Chud and Shurmur switched places, which would be awkward, right? Ron Rivera and Shurmur were on the Eagles coaching staff together for some time.
3:05 p.m.
With Rod Chudzinski gone for Cleveland, the Panthers need a new offensive coordinator. Albert Breer of NFL Network reports they've requested permission to interview Hue Jackson of the Bengals.
2:30 p.m.
The folks at FootballScoop.com are hearing that the Cowboys might consider bringing in someone to call plays on the offensive end of things as well. This would mean less responsibility for head coach Jason Garrett and probably be the smartest thing they could do this offseason in terms of improving their team.
2:01 p.m.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have interest in Marty Mornhinwig as their offensive coordinator. He would be a nice deviation away from the bland attack of 2012.
1:05 p.m.
The Cowboys have hired Monte Kiffin as their new defensive coordinator, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman reports. That means a drastic shift away from the 3-4 defense to a Tampa-2 style. Which could be ... interesting.
11:50 a.m.
According to Will Carroll (a.k.a. The Injury Expert), Bruce Arians is as "good as gone" from Indianapolis. The Colts are apparently already putting together a list of potential OC replacements. This wouldn't be shocking given how hot Arians' name is right now.
11:25 a.m.
Tom Telesco, the Chargers new GM, is going to be a busy guy this weekend: as noted below, he'll be meeting with Lovie Smith on Friday. Shortly after that, per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Telesco and the Chargers will meet with former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt.
11:15 a.m.
The Chargers are reportedly set to interview Lovie Smith on Friday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Smith was recently fired by the Bears following a 10-win season.
10:15 a.m.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Rob Chudzinski's deal with the Browns is believed to be five years and $3-something million a year. That's some pretty good cheddar.
10:07 a.m.
Jimmy Johnson created quite a stir Friday, when he tweeted that one of "his guys," Marc Trestman, would end up with the Bears gig. Our Jason La Canfora hears much differently, reporting that the Bears will keep interviewing candidates throughout the weekend and Trestman doesn't eve know if he's a finalist yet.
9:30 a.m.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Chiefs are going to strip the Jets coaching staff for their defensive coordinator. Mehta hears linebackers coach Bob Sutton will be Andy Reid's first DC in Kansas City.
