Patriots: Alfonzo Dennard missed practice due to pretrial motions

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

Less than a week before the 2012 NFL Draft, former Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault on a police officer after he allegedly participated in a bar fight.

Nearly 10 months later and just days before the Patriots and Ravens face in the AFC Championship Game, Denard's arrest might come back to haunt New England.

According to ESPN Boston, Dennard had to miss the Patriots' practice on Wednesday because of pretrial motions that took place in Nebraska. He's been charged with felony assault and two related misdemeanors.

The trial -- which had been delayed from July and November -- is scheduled to start Feb. 11, the week after the Super Bowl.

Dennard was projected as high as a second-round draft pick in the 2012 draft, but after his arrest, he dropped to the seventh round.

On the season, Dennard played 10 games, starting seven, and recording three interceptions to go with seven passes defended. In last week's divisional playoff win agaist the Texans, he started and finished with three tackles.
