Cowboys announce hiring of Derek Dooley as WRs coach

Late last month, it was reported that fired University of Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley had been hired as the new Cowboys receivers coach, but it actually took a little longer than we thought for it to become official.

On Monday, the Cowboys announced it themselves, saying they hired Dooley as the receivers coach while moving former receivers coach Jimmy Robinson to a senior consultant role.

Dooley and Cowboys coach Jason Garrett have a history together -- the former was the Dolphins tight ends coach during the 2005-06 seasons, while Garrett was the quarterbacks coach.

Dooley is coming off a disastrous reign at Tennessee, where he went 15-21 in three seasons (including a 4-19 mark in SEC play). He was fired at the end of the season, but arrived in Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl to interview with Garrett.

Though it took more time than most thought, Dooley officially has a new job working for a coach whose own position is in danger.
