Delanie Walker's aunt, uncle killed in car accident after Super Bowl

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Sad, sad news out of New Orleans: The aunt and uncle of San Francisco 49ers tight end Delanie Walker were killed in a car accident following the Super Bowl.

Walker tweeted about the tragic news on Wednesday, including a picture of him with the couple and noting that they were hit by a drunk driver.

Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that Walker's agent has confirmed the news. And 49ers CEO Jed York did the same with a tweet passing along thoughts and prayers to Walker and his family.

Later on Wednesday, the 49ers general manager Trent Baalke released this statement: “We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to Delanie and his family as they grieve this tragedy. Our organization is here to support Delanie through this tough time, as we do with all of our players and staff. At this time, we will respect their family's privacy and ask others to do so as well.”

Ravens receiver Torrey Smith also sent his sympathies.

There's not much more we can do other than echo the notes the 49ers organization: Our thoughts and prayers go out to Walker and his family during this impossibly tough time.
