You might recall a few months back when Sporting News columnist David Whitley tore into 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick for having the audacity to, um, have tattoos on his body.
“NFL quarterback is the ultimate position of influence and responsibility,” Whitley wrote. “He is the CEO of a high-profile organization, and you don't want your CEO to look like he just got paroled."
Anyway, it was a big brouhaha that touched on the issue of race, but the controversy hasn't been brought up much lately because Kaepernick and his non-CEO look just led the 49ers to the Super Bowl. And to celebrate, Kaepernick got ANOTHER tattoo.
As Larry Brown Sports notes, Kaepernick went under the needle Thursday, and the above picture is the final result.
Before, all he had on his chest were the words “Against All Odds.” On Thursday, he added the tribal art from his neck to the lower portion of his pectorals. You can see below the progress artist Orly Locquiao from Humble Beginnings was making during the session.

Locquiao wrote on his Facebook page that he tattooed Kaepernick until 2:30 a.m. and that the new design is supposed “to represent [Kaepernick's] family, inner strength, spiritual growth, and humility.”
Somewhere, a columnist who needs a good story idea is gnashing his teeth in anger.
