The New York Jets have agreed to a deal with free-agent running back Mike Goodson, the team announced.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News is reporting that the deal is three-years and worth $6.9 million.

Goodson played last season in Oakland after spending the first two years of his career in Carolina. His best season came in 2010 with the Panthers, when he split time in the backfield with Jonathan Stewart after DeAngelo Williams was injured midway through the season. He rushed for 452 yards and three touchdowns that year, though his main contribution has typically been in the return game.

It remains to be seen how the Jets will use him, but he joins a backfield that is absent a feature runner. The team's former starter, Shonn Greene, signed a three-year deal with the Titans earlier this week.

As of now, New York's top returning rusher is Bilal Powell, who ran for 437 yards last season as Greene's backup.
