Report: Cardinals sign CB Cason for one year, $2 million

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

About a month ago, the Union Tribune in San Diego estimated that former Chargers cornerback Antoine Cason would receive a contract offer somewhere in the $5 million range. Turns out that figure was slightly off.

Instead, Cason has signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals worth about $2 million plus incentives, according to the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers.

While Cason isn't a Pro Bowl-type player, $2 million seems cheap for a middle-of-the-road defensive back. Cason is coming off a 2012 in which he recorded two interceptions, 11 passes defended and 71 tackles, but according to Pro Football Focus, he was one of the worst cornerbacks in the league last season (PFF ranks him No. 108 out of 113 cornerbacks).

His career year came in 2010 when he recorded four interceptions and 17 passes defended, but since then, he hasn't been the same player.

UT San Diego reports that Cason actually had a bigger offer from the Jaguars, but he wanted to play in Arizona.
