NFLPA eliminates junior rule

The NFLPA has moved to eliminate the junior rule which prevented agent contact with college underclassmen. Let me tell you why this is a smart thing and a big deal.

The move, first reported by the Sports Business Journal, but speculated about for months, means agents can speak to players at any time. But this is the key. Agents registered with the NFLPA can speak with players at any time.

The move is designed to eliminate the filthy practice of runners. Runners are the do-boys of agents and many runners are the ones who, on behalf of the agents, do the most disgusting acts like providing wads of cash or cars or many other improper benefits. The stories of runners are legendary.

By eliminating the junior rule only agents registered with the union can now contact players. This cuts out the turds and puts the responsibility on the agent only.

So if something illegal happens it can be traced back to the agent. There are no excuses now.

If an agent is busted the NFLPA will impose stiff penalties.

The elimination of this rule won't stop shady agent practices but it will certainly slow them. In a week with a great deal of news this is one of the smarter moves of the month. It's a fairly important thing.
