This is, actually, one of the best ideas to thwart fan violence. Maybe the best idea ever.
The NFL is now requiring fans ejected from a stadium to take an online course. This news was first reported by Darren Rovell.
But unlike Rovell we got a copy of the test.
It works like this. You go to the link, click on the dropdown menu which stadium you were thrown out of, pay the fee, and take the test. A certificate of completion is awarded once the test is finalized.
This is why the idea is a marvelous one. Actually, two reasons. One, the test is about $75 (less for more stadiums and more for others). Seventy. Five. Buckaroos. That alone is a nice little reason not to get into trouble in an NFL stadium.
Second, the test takes four hours. FOUR HOURS!
The NFL knows news of this test will spread like wildfire and offer some form of deterrent. Now of course it won't stop the hardcore drunk or the extremely violent who will do harm no matter what but it could stop others who are not so extreme.
It also will help to stop repeat offenders who are a huge problem.
No, it won't stop everyone, but it will help. Darn good idea.
Now let's see if it actually works.
