NFL Coaches Association leader meets with Goodell, team execs
There has been labor chaos in the NFL recently. The players went through a nasty lockout before the new CBA was completed. The game officials are currently locked out. Now, the NFL's assistant coaches are quietly seeking better relationships with league officials and owners.
You can see this in a letter obtained by CBSSports.com. In the letter, NFL Coaches Association David Cornwell discusses some of the meetings he's held with key league officials including the big dog, Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL. This is a significant development. Assistant coaches in particular are seeking better pay and benefits and it seems Cornwell is making progress on this front. Significant because Cornwell's behind the scenes work might smooth out what, over the past five to ten years or so, has been a strained relationship between mostly assistant coaches and owners. Most assistants in the NFL don't make a great deal of money or solid benefits. The NFLCA has long been trying to rectify this with only a handful of results. Cornwell might be able to change this because he's highly well known in the NFL world and has the respect of Goodell. So stay tuned.
