Vernon Davis: NFL might be flag football in 20 years
NEW ORLEANS -- Baltimore Ravens safety Bernard Pollard told CBSSports.com's Clark Judge that 30 years from now the NFL won't be in existence due to rulings on hard hits to make the game safer.
"Guys are getting fined, and they're talking about, 'Let's take away the strike zone' and 'Take the pads off' or 'Take the helmets off.' It's going to be a thing where fans aren't going to want to watch it anymore," Pollard said.
Not to be left out of the NFL extinction theory, San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis also pontificated on the future of the NFL.
“The NFL 20 years from now, I think the rules will change a lot,” Davis said at Super Bowl media day. “There's already no helmet to helmet. It might be flag football maybe.”
Davis said the last part of his quote jokingly, but what if he's right? What if the little flag belts, replaced pads?
Also maybe the NFL will do away with the draft because being picked last makes some players feel bad and each team will get a trophy so that everyone can feel like a winner.
Scary.
