Legendary quarterbacks dish on Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco
NEW ORLEANS -- In order to give you a little more insight into the pocket passers on Sunday, I tracked down a few fellas who know a little bit about the quarterback position. Kordell Stewart, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman and Bill Cowher all gave me their quarterback picks for Super Bowl XLVII. If you're still undecided as to which team or which quarterback you want to win on Sunday, words of wisdom from this list of legendary quarterbacks and coaches should help you decide.
Kordell Stewart – Colin Kaepernick
Stewart revolutionized the game as a mobile quarterback and was one of the best quarterbacks to perfect the rushing touchdown. Therefore, it's not a surprise that he likes the play of running quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
“I like Colin Kaepernick. His game is very similar to what I did, and it works. It always has worked. Now it's being accepted. To see it actually have success now, I am very enthused. That athletic style and the read options, it's never been accepted before and to see it be done by more than one quarterback is refreshing.”
Troy Aikman – Joe Flacco
The three-time Super Bowl champion, hall of famer and the winningest quarterback of any decade in history is rooting for Baltimore's Joe Flacco. Aikman was impressed by Flacco's ability to transform the Baltimore Ravens into an offensive juggernaut.
“As a quarterback myself, I appreciated what Joe Flacco has done for so long and now he's getting some recognition that I think he's deserved for a while. I think he's been a really good player in this league and that was a very difficult situation for him to come into with the defense and all these superstars and Ray Lewis. They just overshadowed anything that the offense could have done. This year the offense has had to shoulder the load. I'm proud that [Flacco] is being seen for some of the things he's been doing for a while."
Coach Bill Cowher - Undecided
He's not a QB, but after working with Ben Roethlisberger, two-time Super Bowl champ and Pro Bowler, Cowher knows a good quarterback when he sees one. However, Coach is still torn between the talents under center on Sunday.
“Joe Flacco's play has been unbelievable with all the deep balls he throws. Then it's exciting to see the future of the NFL with guys like [Kaepernick] and Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck and RGIII. It just shows how bright the future of the NFL is. I like both of them because of their totally contrasting styles."
Dan Marino - Colin Kaepernick
Hall of famers have a tendency to lean toward greatness and Marino is no different. He's impressed with the exciting play of Kaepernick and is picking the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XLVII. “Colin Kaepernick is going to have some huge, dynamic impact plays in this game.”
