Titans WR Kenny Britt offers few details about meeting with Roger Goodell

Two days after meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in New York, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt had one of his best workouts since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee several weeks ago.

Minutes later, Britt huddled inside Chris Johnson's locker and spoke to reporters for the first time since his arrest last month for suspicion of DUI. Britt said little about the arrest and his second meeting with Goodell over the last year for his off-field behavior.

“It was a personal meeting, I'd rather see what happens [before commenting],” Britt said. “He wasn't that pleased at seeing me in there. No person would like to see their players in their office twice in one year.”

Britt met with Goodell last year on Aug. 23 after a string of arrests during the lockout. The former Rutgers wideout avoided a suspension but received a stern rebuke from the commissioner that one could come if his pattern of behavior didn't change.

The fourth-year wide receiver was arrested after he attempted to enter a gate at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky at approximately 3:30 a.m. July 20. Britt was administered a field sobriety test but refused a breathalyzer test, The Tennessean reported. Britt declined to comment on the incident on Wednesday.

“The things I did in the past you have to learn from,” Britt said. “I'm going to learn from every mistake I do in life and move forward.”

While his teammates practiced on an adjacent field in the sweltering Nashville heat Wednesday afternoon, Britt ran through a series of drills with strength and conditioning coach Steve Watterson. Shirtless, Britt completed several shuttle runs, 30-yard sprints and pushed a weighted sled. When he returned to his locker, a spent Britt covered his head with a towel. Wide receiver Nate Washington chided his teammate, telling his teammate that he'd rather be practicing with the team than running through the drills.

Britt worked out with a brace on his left knee but without one on his right. The receiver has had two procedures on his right knee in the last year since tearing two ligaments on Sept. 25. He said he injured his left knee by overcompensating on it during the rehab process.

“It felt the best since I had my last surgery and that was about four weeks ago,” Britt said. “I woke up one morning after running the day before. I can't tell you exactly how I did it but I was feeling a little clicking. I asked for an MRI because it got swollen and I found out I had a little tear.”

Britt said his knee felt good when he resumed cutting in workouts last week. He is unsure when the Titans plan to take him off PUP. Last summer, Goodell handed down his decision four days after meeting with Britt.

Titans coach Mike Munchak indicated Monday that he hopes the matter is resolved quickly.

“You have to wait and see where this thing goes, but you always want to get started so you know what's going on,” Munchak said.

Britt did not indicate if Goodell plans on suspending him.

“I'm going to take it on the chin and move forward,” Britt said.
