On Monday, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid left the door open a crack and the fans and media rushed through it. On Wednesday, Reid did his best to make sure that door remained closed. He made it clear Michael Vick is his starting quarterback.
Reid said this on Monday when asked about the quarterback position: “Right now, we're with Michael and that's what we're doing. We'll evaluate as we go.” Coming one day after Vick had a horrible game in a 27-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, that comment was interpreted as Reid saying that he was considering a change at QB, which would be rookie Nick Foles.
On Wednesday, Reid clarified what he said on Monday: “Bad semantics there,'' Reid said. “Michael is our quarterback.”
Reid also said he made a point to discuss the situation with Vick and assure him that his comments were taken out of context. Vick was already aware of all the talk, simply because it was everywhere in the Delaware Valley -- television, radio, print and internet, not to mention bar stools and barber shops.
“I heard it,'' Vick said, “but I don't pay attention to what's being said unless I hear it from Coach himself.”
The other Eagles heard it, too, of course, and they also rushed to Vick's defense on Wednesday.
“We're always behind Mike, 100 percent,'' tight end Brent Celek said. “It's a team thing, and it's obvious if you watch the film that it wasn't all Mike.”
