The Packers claimed RB Johnny White off waivers from the Bills and placed RB Brandon Saine on injured reserve, the team announced on Monday.
White (5-foot-10, 210 pounds), a second-year back out of North Carolina, was drafted in the fifth round by Buffalo last year. He played in 12 games for the Bills in 2011, rushing 12 times for 38 yards (3.2-yard average) and registering five tackles on special teams. In three games this season, White carried eight times for 34 yards (4.3). A physical back with good burst, his last three runs with the Bills (Weeks 3-4) went for 8, 9 and 6 yards.
As a senior in 2010, White rushed for 720 yards and seven touchdowns on 130 carries (5.5) for the Tar Heels.
Saine had been the Packers' third-string running back since he was signed off the practice squad midway through the 2011 season. He didn't have any carries this year but was a contributor on special teams. He hurt his knee covering a kickoff in Sunday's win over the Texans.
