Eagles coach Andy Reid is renting Tommy Brasher for a month, as his former assistant fills in as defensive line coach for the final four games of the season. Reid fired Jim Washburn from that position on Monday and the more Reid talks about Brasher, the more evident it becomes why he fired Washburn.

Reports have circulated that Washburn clashed with and was disrespectful to other members of the coaching staff and that Washburn was angry at Reid for releasing defensive end Jason Babin last week and let Reid know about.

So, When Reid was first asked about Brasher -- who was a part of Reid's first Eagles' staff in 1999 and stayed until he retired in 2005 -- he didn't say anything about knowledge or experience or coaching ability.

“Having Tommy Brasher back here again brings back a very loyal, loyal assistant,'' Reid said. “He's a coach that I've had here for a number of years who understands exactly what I'm about and what I'm trying to get done with a young defensive line.”

Reid said “loyal” not once, but twice. And when Reid was asked about Brasher again on Wednesday, he said this: “He hasn't been here long enough to do anything, but he's a positive guy. He's upbeat. He's all about the team. He wants to help us get better and that's how Tommy was the years that he was here prior to his retirement. So, that's welcome.”
