Indianapolis Colts linebacker Pat Angerer had a career year in 2011 and seemed poised to repeat his production this year, his third season. But Angerer went down early, breaking his right foot in the team's first preseason game. He was never all the way back, and now Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star is reporting Angerer will undergo a second surgery on the foot.

Angerer appeared in 12 games (three starts) this season, including the Colts' 24-9 playoff loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
Angerer finished the year with 34 tackles.
“What I'll remember about this year is it's the closest group of guys I've ever been around," Angerer said following Sunday's loss in Baltimore. "It's the most I've felt like a family in my three years with the Colts. We stuck together. I love these guys. Hopefully, we'll get back. We'll heal up, get healthy and fight another day.”
It will be tough sledding for Angerer, though, who will now battle Jerrell Freeman for playing time. Freeman finished the season as one of the NFL's top tacklers.
No timetable has been announced for Angerer's return.
