49ers cut K Billy Cundiff

After only two and a half weeks, the Billy Cundiff era in San Francisco is over. The 49ers waived the eighth-year kicker on Friday.

Cundiff was signed on Jan. 2 to compete with David Akers, who struggled for most of 2012. Akers connected on only 69 percent (29 of 42) of his field goals this season, his lowest conversion rate since 1999.

Akers closed out the regular season hitting only 6 of 10 field goals, which prompted 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh to bring in Cundiff. Cundiff was inactive for San Francisco's 45-31 playoff win over Green Bay last week. Akers was perfect in the win, hitting one field goal from 36 yards and all six of his extra points.
