2013 Super Bowl: Jim Harbaugh's son will be rooting for Ravens
If you're tired of the brother vs. brother angle heading into Super Bowl XLVII, here's a different one for you: father vs. son. San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh's 23-year-old son, Jay, is an intern coach for the Ravens.
Jay Harbaugh told the Los Angeles Times this week that despite the fact that his dad coaches the 49ers, he won't have any conflicting feelings on Sunday. He wants the Ravens to win.
"I couldn't fathom even considering not being all in with the team I'm a part of," Jay Harbaugh said. "Any true competitor feels the exact same way. You have to be totally all in with your team, sold on the vision. Otherwise, there's no point. No point to being a part of it, putting in all the time that you do and making the sacrifices."

Jay said that if he did cheer for the 49ers, it might confuse his ultra-competitive dad, "In some alternate universe, if I was conflicted, it would just confuse my dad," Jay said. "It would confuse any true competitor because you can't reconcile those things in your head. If you're all in, you're all in. It's an all-or-nothing proposition for that whole week."
Jay Harbaugh managed to lie low until Wednesday, when his grandpa Jack -- John and Jim's dad -- spilled the beans on him. "Anybody know Jay Harbaugh?" Jack asked. "Jay Harbaugh is Jim's oldest son and he's on the coaching staff of the Ravens. He does video and works in the weight room."
Jim and John haven't been talking on the phone leading up to Sunday's game and the same goes for Jim and Jay, "I haven't been talking to him or calling him. Sent him a couple of texts to let him know how I feel about him," Jim Harbaugh said on Friday.
As for Jay's uncle, Ravens coach John Harbaugh, he thinks that maybe Jay can give Baltimore a slight edge, "He's far better than I even anticipated," John said. "The way we look at it... maybe that will tip the scale. Maybe it will be Jay."
One thing's for sure: there will be a lot of Harbaughs in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday.
