Thanks to a Baltimore store's promotion, Jones' 108-yard return meant a free living room set for Yolanda Maria Martinez, a free kitchen set for Danielle Mallon, a free pub table and chairs for Vicki Simpson and a total of $600,000 in free furniture.
Gardiners Furniture advertised that if Jones returned the opening or second-half kickoff for a touchdown, all furniture bought between Jan. 31 and 3 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday would be free.
“Yeah baby!" Kalea Kaiser wrote in one typical post on Gardiners' Facebook page. "So glad we picked this weekend to buy!"
Others lamented a missed opportunity.
“As Jacoby is running the ball back, my husband's screaming and I'm yelling "WE COULDA HAD FREE FURNITURE!!!" read one post.
The store has run a similar promotion for three years, according to the Baltimore Sun. Kasee Lehrl, the store's advertising and marketing manager, told the paper that Gardiners bought an insurance policy.
"That was amazing!" the store posted on its Facebook page after Jones set the record for the longest play in Super Bowl history. "Furniture is FREE! If you made a purchase this weekend, it's your lucky day. Go Ravens!"
Jones' kickoff return touchdown was the ninth in Super Bowl history.
