Houston Texans nose tackle Shaun Cody underwent back surgery in Los Angeles last week, according to the Houston Chronicle. The medical term for the procedure is: microscopic lumbar discectomy surgery for a lumbar disc herniation.
Despite an injury-riddled season, Cody still managed to play in 13 of Houston's 16 regular-season games. The injuries started in mid-August when Cody suffered a back injury in a preseason win over Carolina.
Things got worse in Week 9, when Cody punctured his lung and broke his ribs in a 21-9 win over Buffalo. Those injuries forced the 307-pound nose tackle to miss Houston's next three games.
Cody has spent four of his eight NFL seasons with the Texans, but his time in Houston could be coming to an end. The eight-year veteran is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March when his contract expires.
