Bills cut Terrence McGee

The Buffalo Bills cut cornerback Terrence McGee on Thursday, marking the third time this week the team released a veteran defensive player. The Bills cut safety George Wilson and linebacker Nick Barnett on Monday as Doug Marrone and the new coaching staff continue to reshape the team's defense.

McGee was one of the two longest tenured defensive players on the Bills' roster. McGee and defensive end Chris Kelsay were drafted by Buffalo in 2003. Kelsay is still with the team.

"Terrence has been a contributor to the Bills organization for 10 years and we thank him for his efforts on the field and off," general manager Buddy Nix said in a statement. "We wish him the best of luck in the future."

Injuries have plagued McGee over the past three seasons, including 2012 when he was placed on injured reserve in November with a knee problem. McGee has only played in 22 of the Bills' last 48 games.

Before being released, the nine-year veteran had spent his entire career in Buffalo.

McGee's days as a Bill more or less became numbered when Buffalo used its 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft to select South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

McGee will leave Buffalo holding several team records, including most career kickoff return yards (5,450) and most career kickoff return touchdowns (five).
