San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke isn't sure if Randy Moss will be back in a 49ers uniform in 2013. Baalke was asked about the 36-year-old wide receiver at the combine on Thursday and although he was complimentary of Moss, he was noncommittal about his future in San Francisco.
“Randy's a pro and I can't say enough good things about Randy. If you ask anyone within our organization they would say the same thing," Baalke said. "One of the first guys to work every day. One of the last to leave. A guy that takes great care of his body. That is probably one of the smartest football players, if not the smartest football player I've been around. So, we're certainly happy that he was there."
Baalke then added the murky part about Moss' future: "Is he going to return this year? I don't know that yet.”
Baalke isn't the only one that doesn't know if Moss will return to San Francisco next season, Moss doesn't seem to know either.
Moss said at Super Bowl media day that he'd like to play at least one more season, but when asked if that season would be with the 49ers, Moss wasn't so sure, "I don't know about that. Next question," Moss said.
One person who does want Moss to return is 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh made it clear in January that he wants Moss back in San Francisco, "For official publication, I, for one, want Randy to come back. Hope he feels the same way," Harbaugh said.
Moss may not feel the same way though and he hinted as much on Super Bowl media day, "I don't like my role," Moss said. "I really don't. I like to be out there playing football."
This was the same interview where Moss proclaimed that he's the "greatest receiver to ever do it."
The "greatest receiver to ever do it" finished the 2012 season with 28 catches for 434 yards and three touchdowns. The 28 receptions tied a career-low for Moss.
