You can bet the Bills took a good long look at Cordarrelle Patterson and the other wideouts at the NFL combine on Sunday.
Buffalo, which owns the eighth overall pick, is overhauling its receiving corps. First, the team opted not to re-sign Donald Jones. Now it appears Buffalo won't offer a contract to restricted free agent David Nelson. ESPN's Adam Schefter cited a league source Sunday for the information.
That would leave Stevie Johnson, Brad Smith and T.J. Graham as the only receivers on the roster. The Bills need a big, fast wideout to pair with Johnson, and the 6-2, 216-pound Patterson fits the bill.
CBSSports.com draft analyst Dane Brugler has the Bills taking Patterson at No. 8 overall. Patterson is among three former Tennessee wideouts, along with Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers, who could go high in the draft. The trio made friendly bets on who'd perform better at the combine.
Buffalo also could be switching quarterbacks under new coach Doug Marrone. Behind Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Bills ranked 25th in passing last season (204.3 yards per game).
