Former Tulsa quarterback G.J. Kinne is going to sign with the Eagles, according to a tweet from Kinne. Kinne worked out with the team early Thursday and then tweeted Thursday evening that he's "officially a Philadelphia Eagle."
However, as CSNPhilly pointed out, Kinne can't officially sign with the Eagles until he's formally released from his contract with the AFL's San Antonio Talons.
Kinne has been a nomad since leaving Tulsa. He signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent last April, but was released in June before the team went to training camp. Kinne then latched on with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL before eventually signing with the Talons after the UFL ceased operations.
In three years as the starting quarterback at Tulsa, Kinne threw for 9,472 yards and 81 touchdown. If Kinne's arm doesn't impress Kelly, his legs might: Kinne rushed for 1,365 yards and 15 touchdowns during his college career, becoming the only quarterback in Tulsa history to pass for over 6,000 yards and rush for over 1,000.
Kinne does have a connection to the Eagles coaching staff: Philadelphia's offensive quality control coach Press Taylor -- hired by the Eagles in early February -- was Kinne's quarterback coach at Tulsa.
