2014 NFL Draft: Bears, Texans, 49ers lead in Big Board prospects

Draft classes cannot be fairly graded for at least three years, and mock drafts are an exercise in entertaining futility once a team near the top jumbles the board with a surprising pick - how many of you had Blake Bortles going No. 3 to the Jacksonville Jaguars ?

What is clear is how NFL teams viewed this year's talent pool, considered one of the deepest in history. From my final top 100 pre-draft Big Board, 78 players were ultimately selected within the Top 100 picks.

NFLDraftScout.com, one of the few services to track and analyze prospects from the time they enter college, was second among major sites and analysts by projecting 80 of the top 100. That is very close to NDS' five-year average of 82, which is tied for third, according to The Huddle Report.

Three teams - the Chicago Bears , Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers -- top the list with five of my Big Board players selected. The New Orleans Saints could be a big winner with dynamic receiver Brandin Cooks, but he was the only player general manager Mickey Loomis selected in 2014 who ranked among my top 100 prospects.
