Here's why Roger Goodell sent Eli Apple's mother some brownies
Annie Apple said the NFL commissioner owed her some brownies. He obliged.
Whatever NFL future awaits Eli Apple, the Giants' 2016 first-round pick, you can be sure he'll handle it with aplomb and maturity beyond his years. And that will have everything to do with his mother, Annie Apple, who explained recently why she didn't let her 20-year-old son wear diamonds and a Rolex on the red carpet prior to last week's draft. ("I told him, 'Dude, you're an unemployed college dropout. You will not be on TV with a Rolex.'")
In that same story, in which she chronicled for SI.com Eli's draft experience, Annie had this to say about the event.
"There was a wonderful welcome reception for the family, though whomever planned the event forgot to include desserts. This is what happens when skinny women rule the world: they forget the chocolate. Clearly the commissioner owes me a brownie."
That not-so-subtle message didn't go unnoticed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
"Just a head's up to be on the look out for a delivery of brownies today," league spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an email to Tim Apple, Annie's husband (via ESPN.com). "The Commissioner was aware of Annie's disappointment in the lack of desserts at the draft in Chicago and wanted to make up for it."
This isn't the first time the Apples and food have made headlines together. In the days leading up to the draft an anonymous scout had this to say about Eli: "I worry about him because of off-the-field issues. The kid has no life skills. At all. Can't cook. Just a baby. He's not first round for me. He scares me to death."
If it sounds patently ridiculous it gets worse -- the scout can't even get his facts straight.
Btw, Eli's dad is a retired five star chef. We eat well. So stop playing with our name. Next time you say our name, put some respeck on it 😳

Annie was also dispensing more Twitter truths during the draft.
Praying for all the thirsty girls sliding in new NFL rookies DMs with heavy booty & cleavage action pics. Only Jesus can quench your thirst

These also didn't go unnoticed by the commissioner.
"We've enjoyed reading and watching Annie as she becomes a media star. Hope you all have a good Mother's Day Weekend."
Meanwhile, Eli is taking it all in stride.
"It does not surprise me one bit," he said of his mother. "I kind of expected it. It was something that I was thinking that I would have to account for because I know how she is and I know her personality on Twitter and out in public. I'm fine with it. It's nothing surprising at all."
