Two Sooners prospects apply to play immediately

The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to get a pair of transfers on the field immediately, with coach Bob Stoops announcing Jalen Saunders and Cortez Johnson have applied for waivers to play in 2012.

Saunders is the No. 23-rated wide receiver prospect for the 2015 NFL Draft, according to early ratings by NFLDraftScout.com. He was a first-team All-WAC receiver with 1,065 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore last year, but transferred after coach Pat Hill was fired.

Saunders is an undersized receiver at 5-9, 160 pounds whose biggest game in 2011 was a seven-catch, 174-yard performance with two touchdowns in a loss to New Mexico State.

Johnson left Arizona after the firing of Mike Stoops, who is now the defensive coordinator under brother Bob for the Sooners.

"There’s nothing to feel good or bad about," Bob Stoops said when asked if he felt good about the players' waiver requests, according to News Oklahoma. "It’s just a process. You go through the process and we’ll see."
