2015 NFL DRAFT

B.J. Coleman throws for 16 teams at Chattanooga pro day

By Derek Harper | The Sports Xchange/CBSSports.com

Quarterbacks inevitably rise as the draft approaches every year, and Tennessee-Chattanooga's B.J. Coleman is trying to hop on the train up draft boards.

The No. 9-rated quarterback by NFLDraftScout.com, Coleman is currently projected as a fifth- to sixth-round pick. But he has excellent size at 6-3, 233 pounds, possesses good mobility and has the arm strength to make all the NFL throws.

Coleman fell a bit off the radar when he was unable to throw at the Scouting Combine in February due to a broken pinky, but he enjoyed a strong workout in front of representatives from 18 teams at the Mocs' pro day Monday, He completed 34-of-43 passes, which isn't outstanding for a scripted workout, but it did include a pair of drops, according to The Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Representatives from the Bears, Broncos, Dolphins, Titans, Falcons, Giants, Patriots, Seahawks, Steelers, Saints and Vikings were on hand. A total of seven prospects worked out, including Tennessee-Chattanooga teammate Joe Bradford, who caught passes from Coleman, and former Tennessee Tech wide receiver Tim Benford.

But Coleman, a one-time University of Tennessee recruit who transferred before the 2009 season, was the main attraction. He was encouraged to have no soreness in the pinky.

"I felt very polished, very solid," Coleman told the paper. "It feels like a burden has been lifted off, and it feels good to have thrown. Now I'll look forward to the next step."

Coleman expects to make personal visits to NFL teams, although his agent, Bus Cook - yes, the man who also represents Brett Favre - said no workouts have been scheduled yet.
