TCU's Wesley to enter NFL Supplemental Draft

By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst

According to his agent, former TCU running back Ed Wesley will enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, reportedly scheduled for Thursday, July 12. The former Horned Frog was slated to be the team's starting running back as a senior, but left the team in May, citing family reasons.

Wesley shared the backfield duties last season with Waymon James and Matthew Tucker after his best season in 2010 with a team-best 1,078 rushing yards, earning First Team All-MWC honors. He leaves the college ranks with 2,442 career rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging 10.9 yards per punt return on special teams.

Wesley (5-9, 200) has good vision, anticipation and decisive movements as a runner, but isn't overly elusive. He has battled the injury bug over his career, especially to his shoulder after missing three games last season. Wesley isn't guaranteed to be selected in the Supplemental Draft, but he was considered a mid-to-late round draft pick after his junior season.

Although Wesley is the only name revealed thus far, several other prospects are reportedly considering entering the Supplemental Draft. Last summer, Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was the only player selected in the 2011 Supplemental Draft, taken in the third round by the Oakland Raiders. The Supplemental Draft uses the same draft order from the most recent NFL Draft, although teams aren't required to use any draft picks.
