2013 NFL Draft: LSU LB Kevin Minter is NFL-bound

By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst

LSU redshirt junior Kevin Minter has decided to forgo his remaining eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, according to a report by ESPN's Joe Schad.

Minter ranks as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 2 inside linebacker prospect, behind only Notre Dame's Manti Te'o. He appears in my first-round mock draft, projected to go 29th to the Houston Texans.

A first team All-SEC performer, Minter emerged as one of the top leaders of the LSU defense in 2012 and one of only four SEC defenders to record triple-digit tackles, finishing with 111 stops. He also led the team with 13.5 tackles for loss, adding three sacks, five pass break-ups and an interception.

Minter is a physical downhill linebacker, who plays decisive and tough with an attacking play style. He shows little wasted movements and plays with an infectious intensity that his teammates feed off of, earning praise for his attitude on and off the field by the coaching staff. LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis has called Minter the team's top competitor, and, at the end-of-season banquet, Minter was voted by his teammates as the team's most valuable player.

While Te'o appears to be the consensus top prospect at his position, it wouldn't be surprising if some teams rank Minter as the better inside linebacker.
