Joeckel is the No. 1 offensive tackle and overall prospect in NFLDraftScout.com's rankings for the 2013 NFL Draft. He is projected as a top-five overall pick and should be in the mix for the Kansas City Chiefs' selection with the No. 1 overall choice, like in Rob Rang's first-round mock draft.
While Heisman winning quarterback Johnny Manziel receives much of the credit, the Texas A&M offensive line, led by Joeckel at left tackle, was a large part of the Aggies' success in 2012. He started every game on the left side since his true freshman season three years ago and shut down several of the SEC's top pass rushers this past season.
Listed at 6 feet 6 and 310 pounds, Joeckel is the complete package, showing the feet to mirror speed off the edge, the anchor to hold his ground against bull rushers and the power to create room in the run game.
Although he doesn't have quite the same natural tools as Minnesota Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil, who was drafted fourth overall last season, Joeckel is considered the more polished lineman out of the college ranks.
In a draft class that lacks many “elite” prospects, Joeckel might be the closest example for the 2013 NFL Draft.
