2013 Combine: Jarvis Jones to skip workout, focus on Pro Day

In a draft lacking superstars, the most productive player in the class has decided not to participate in the athletic drills at the Combine.

Georgia pass-rusher Jarvis Jones, who led the country in sacks (14.5), tackles for loss (24.5) and forced fumbles (seven) and ranks as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 8 overall prospect, will instead wait for his Pro Day on March 21, according to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Scouts are disappointed in Jones's decision not to compete in Indianapolis, but he'll still be forced to undergo the most important test he would have had to pass at the combine -- the medical.

Jones, 6-2, 240, was diagnosed with spinal stenosis while playing at Southern California. The team doctors there refused to clear him, and he wound up transferring to Georgia. After sitting out the 2010 season, he proved to be a dominating rush linebacker in the Bulldogs' 3-4 scheme, earning First Team All-SEC honors the past two years.

Spinal stenosis -- the narrowing of the spine -- is a condition that was cited for the early retirement of former San Diego left tackle Marcus McNeill.

Jones passed the initial medical check given to him at the Combine, but it will be up to the doctors employed by each team to determine his ultimate draft status. Despite Jones's murky medical grade, he could still earn a top six pick in April's draft, as I project in my mock draft, or he could slip significantly further, as Dane Brugler projects.

Jones hasn't missed any time due to neck issues while with the Bulldogs but missed two games in 2012 due to variety of relatively minor injuries to his ankle, groin and shoulder.
