2015 NFL DRAFT

2013 NFL Draft: Falcons, Ravens lead with four compensatory picks

By Derek Harper | The Sports Xchange/CBSSports.com

The NFL announced 32 compensatory draft picks awarded to 16 teams, bringing the total number of selections for April's seven-round draft to 254.

The Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens lead the way with four compensatory picks, with the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans both awarded three picks. All of the picks are between the third and seventh rounds, with the Houston Texans awarded the first one with the 33rd pick (No. 95 overall) in the third round.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Titans were awarded the next two picks, the only other compensatory selections in the third round. The final pick in the draft, termed "Mr. Irrelevant," is now owned by the Indianapolis Colts with the 48th pick in the seventh round.

The Super Bowl champion Ravens now lead the NFL with a total of 37 compensatory draft picks since 1994 - the first year compensatory draft choices were awarded. By contrast, the Texans and Cleveland Browns have had just six during the same span.

The compensatory picks are determined by a formula that takes into account salary, playing time and postseason honors between the players teams lost and acquired through free agency in 2012.
