Report: RB Charles Sims transfers to West Virginia

By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst

Former Houston running back Charles Sims has decided to transfer to West Virginia for his final year of eligibility, according to Fox 26 Sports in Houston. He led the Cougars in rushing last season and is considered one of the top senior running backs available for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Sims announced he was leaving the program this spring and considered transferring or entering the NFL Supplemental Draft. Houston gave Sims his release from the program, and he is eligible to play immediately because he already graduated, with a degree in health education.

Sims is rated as the No. 5 senior running back for the 2014 NFL Draft by NFLDraftScout.com. He rushed for 851 yards last season on 142 carries and 11 touchdowns in 2012, averaging 6.0 yards per rush. Sims also added 37 catches for 373 yards and three scores, earning Second Team All-CUSA honors despite missing three games due to injury.

West Virginia lost its big three on offense with quarterback Geno Smith and wide receivers Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey off to the NFL. But junior running back Andrew Buie, who led the team in rushing last season with 851 yards, returns to the West Virginia backfield. The Mountaineers now have a pair of offensive transfers who could start the season. Sims joins quarterback Clint Trickett, who left Florida State.
