2015 NFL DRAFT

Georgia's Mitchell lost for season with ACL tear

By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst

The Bulldogs lost more than just a close game on Saturday night.

Georgia junior wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell will miss the remainder of the Bulldogs' 2013 season due to a torn ACL in his right knee, according to multiple reports. He suffered the injury while celebrating Todd Gurley's 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter of last night's loss to Clemson.

On Sunday, coach Mark Richt said Mitchell will have surgery that will end his season.

Mitchell was the top returning receiver for Georgia, recording 40 catches for 572 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore. He was selected to the preseason All-SEC third team and was expected to be one of the featured weapons for Georgia. Mitchell saw time at cornerback as an underclassman, but was expected to play primarily wide receiver as a junior.

Mitchell, who is listed at 6-foot and 190 pounds, entered the season rated as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 7 draft-eligible wide receiver prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft, but the injury now clouds his football future.
