2015 NFL DRAFT

Texans, Rams still alive in race for No. 1 overall draft pick

By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst

With one more week on the regular season NFL schedule, the top-20 picks for the NFL Draft order will soon be set. And the race for the No. 1 overall pick is officially down to two teams: Houston Texans (2-13) and St. Louis Rams, who own the Washington Redskins' (3-12) first round pick.

If the Texans lose on Sunday at Tennessee, which would be their 14th straight loss, Houston will own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. It would mark the third time since the Texans entered the NFL as an expansion franchise in 2002 that the organization would own the top pick.

If the Texans win and the Redskins lose (at New York Giants) on Sunday, then the Rams, who own Washington's 2014 first round pick from the Robert Griffin trade, would have the rights to the No. 1 overall pick. Both teams would be tied with a 3-13 record, but the top pick would go to the Redskins pick due to the lower strength of schedule and the Texans would pick No. 2. If the Redskins win on Sunday, they won't fall far as they have guaranteed a top-five pick for the Rams.

Both the Texans at Titans and Redskins at Giants games are 1 p.m. (EST) kickoffs so the No. 1 pick for the 2014 NFL Draft will be decided next Sunday afternoon.
