The 2014 NFL Draft is over three months away, but already a record has fallen, as 98 underclassmen have decided to go pro early, breaking last year's mark of 73 early entrants. The 2014 NFL Draft is scheduled for May 8-10.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare was Jan. 15. Players who are three years removed from high school are eligible to make the jump early and agree to forfeit any remaining college eligibility once they declare for the draft.

In the 2013 NFL Draft last April, 16 of the 32 players selected in the opening round were underclassmen. Draft classes are boosted every year by the early entrants, especially in the first round, and the 2014 class won't be any different. The record of 98 declared underclassmen is up from 73 in 2013, 65 in 2012, 56 in 2011 and 53 in 2010, an alarming trend that is tough to ignore.
