09/02/2011 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: Northwestern has featured a spread offense 12 years running, but the Wildcats added to their arsenal in the offseason. In an effort to run the ball more consistency, NU introduced the Pistol. Running backs Mike Trumpy and Adonis Smith indicated in the preseason that the two-back look goes nicely with what they knew in high school. However the Wildcats plan to line up on a given play, they'll be doing it being a veteran offensive line. LT Al Netter and RG Ben Burkett have started the last 39 games while LG Brian Mulroe and RT Patrick Ward are returning starters, too. The Wildcats aren't sure whether senior Dan Persa or sophomore Kain Colter will start at QB, but they'll have a ton of veteran receivers at their disposal. Senior slot man Jeremy Ebert earned first-team all-Big Ten honors from the media last year while leading the league in yards. Senior superback Drake Dunsmore added 40 catches as the duo combined for 13 touchdowns. - The Sports Xchange
