04/28/2009 - A closer look at the Chiefs' picks: Round 6/ 175 -- Quinten Lawrence, WR, 6-0, 184, McNeese State...Slightly built, but speedy wide receiver, he missed most of his senior season because of a leg injury. Chiefs think he not only runs fast, but plays fast and could factor in on returns as a rookie.

01/09/2009 - McNeese State's Quinten Lawrence of Carencro High and Kyle Link have been invited to the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. The event, which brings in the top collegiate football players in the nation to be tested by NFL teams, will be held Feb. 19. Usually only those players expected to be taken in the NFL draft are invited to attend. A native of Carencro, Lawrence, who carries 4.2 speed, was injured in the fifth game of the 2008 season and missed the remainder of the year. He finished with 12 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown. He also returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown and saw some action as a defensive back. For his career, the 6-2, 180 pounder, who was an all-conference pick as a sophomore as well as the team MVP, ranked ninth on the all-time McNeese chart with 99 receptions for 1,905 yards. - The Advertiser

      Overview

Lawrence brings speed to the table, and plenty of it. He averaged 19.5 yards on each of his 87 receptions coming into the year, earning second-team All-Southland as a junior. Unfortunately a mid-season lower leg injury cost him a large chunk of his senior campaign; he had only 12 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown in five games this season. He did, however, play some defensive back and take his only career punt return 70 yards for a touchdown. His speed and elusiveness give him a chance to make a team as a returner and fourth receiver/cornerback if he checks out medically. Qualified for the NCAA regionals as a sprinter for the McNeese track squad.
