04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Bills' picks: Round 6/178 - Mark Asper, OG/C, 6-7, 325, Oregon...Massive road grader who played mostly right guard his senior year on one of nation's top offenses, Bills see him as backup center. - The Sports Xchange
A three-year starter on the offensive and defensive lines in high school, Asper continued to build on his versatility at Oregon. After seeing time at right tackle as a freshman, he moved to right guard in 2008 and 2009.
The coaching staff kicked Asper back outside in 2010, starting him in 11 of 12 games at right tackle. As a senior, he was back at guard for 13 games with one start at right tackle.
Asper is an interesting kid in general. Extremely strong, he was a member of the Oregon Iron Club, totaling 1,137 pounds in clean, squat and bench during winter testing in 2010. He's also married with two daughters.
But it's his versatility with the ability to back up multiple positions along the offensive line that will earn him a strong shot at earning a roster spot in the NFL.
