04/29/2012 - A closer look at the Cowboys' picks: Round 6/186 - James Hanna, TE, 6-3, 244, Oklahoma...He didn't catch a lot of passes as a senior but he showed his big play ability as a junior with seven touchdowns on 18 catches. He has a pass catching tight end with blazing speed. He needs a lot of work as a blocker. - The Sports Xchange
Strengths: Athletic mover with very good natural speed and foot quickness. Accelerates to top speed quickly with natural burst in and out of his breaks. Nimble for his size with breakaway speed (career-long receptions of 76 and 54 yards). Good body strength to run through contact and fight for every yard. Has done a nice job filling out his frame and getting stronger. Was just 215-pounds out of high school and has added nearly 40-pounds of good weight. Physical blocker, playing with a finishing attitude. Did a nice job finding the end zone with 9 career scores in his two years as a starter and also offers value as a contributor on special teams coverage.
Weaknesses: Has only average size and strength for the position and lacks an imposing frame. Shows inconsistent focus as a receiver, fighting the ball at times. Inconsistent hands with too many drops. Very raw as a route runner and doesn't look comfortable changing directions in a flash to separate. Some ball security issues after the catch and needs to secure the football. Inconsistent as a blocker and needs to improve his hand and body technique to sustain. Shared the tight end duties most of his career and wasn't a substantial part of a pass-happy offense. Very moderate production with only 52 career receptions for 720 yards (13.8).
