Strengths Weaknesses

With only seven career starts to his credit, Buckner is hardly a house-hold name at this point. He does, however, possess the size and deceptive speed to enjoy a breakout senior campaign. A long-strider who has demonstrated reliable hands in the past, Buckner should be able to provide the deep threat on the outside to allow the smaller slot receivers Rich Rodriguez has preferred in the past to excel.

Player Overview

While former coach Mike Stoops' background was on the defensive side of the ball, the Wildcats consistently churned out NFL-caliber pass-catchers during his tenure, most notably tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receivers Mike Thomas and Juron Criner.

Buckner a native of Allen, Texas, originally signed with the Longhorns after a distinguished prep career and looked like a future standout in the Big 12, hauling in 45 passes for 442 yards and four touchdowns while playing in all 14 games (starting six) in 2009.

He was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and resisting arrest in College Station, Texas in January of 2010, however, and elected to transfer. Buckner had to sit out the 2010 season as part of the NCAA's transfer policy but made his presence known for the Wildcats, earning the scout team MVP award before operating as a complementary piece to Criner last season to the tune of 42 catches for 606 yards and two scores.

03/16/2013 - 2013 Arizona Pro Day: Scott wasn't the only former Wildcat to work out for NFL teams Thursday. Dan Buckner was hoping to impress scouts with his speed, but he pulled up with a hamstring injury 30 yards into his 40-yard dash. "It's definitely disappointing, but everything happens for a reason," Buckner said. "I was having a good day up to that. I wanted to put up a blazing time for them. "I was running fast before I pulled up. They knew I was going to put up a good time." - Daniel Berk, The Arizona Daily Star
