04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Seahawks' picks: Round 7/232 - Greg Scruggs, DE, 6-3, 284, Louisville...A rangy, lanky athlete with loads of potential who can rush the passer and also back up Red Bryant at defensive end. - The Sports Xchange
The Louisville coaching staff didn't waste any time getting Scruggs on the field after recruiting him from St. Xavier in Cincinnati, which was the nation's top-ranked team and won a state championship in his only season on the team.
Scruggs saw action in nine games as a true freshman before taking hold of the defensive interior for the Cardinals while starting all 12 games in 2009. He started just six of 12 games in 2010, however, finishing with 14 tackles, 5.5 for loss and a pair of sacks.
Scruggs registered just 19 tackles in nine games as a senior, although six were for loss and he had a career-high four sacks. He was one of the anchors of Louisville's strong defense despite being bothered by a turf toe injury.
His value in the NFL is as a rotational player who has experience at tackle and end; he added bulk at Louisville to play inside.
